About the show

ILID is a cinematic, art-driven grief literacy series created and hosted by Akilah S. Richards. The show follows Akilah into real encounters with her friends and work she is already in relationship with.

The ILID framework develops our capacity for grieftending personally, communally, and in relationship with the people around us. The show gives that capacity a visual form through artists, their processes, and what we witness through their work. Art creates the stepping stones that carry us through each story. The artist remains the authority on what their work holds, while Akilah's questions and the ILID story architecture help everyone get closer to the losses that want to be seen and said.

Akilah is the throughline, and each featured artist or collective experience becomes a co-protagonist. The audience enters through her relationships, her madd question askin', and her ability to recognize grief inside experiences with loss that people may have been taught to underestimate. Viewers witness grieftending through image, sound, creative process, conversation, place, silence, and acts of Death Care.
