01 / Welcome

A place where the dead and the living can coexist.

Radicalselfie.org is tended by me, Akilah S. Richards. I’m an author, grief literacy educator, integrative thanatologist, and a fellow traveler in the ongoing work of release and remembrance.

These grounds hold the work I’ve done around liberation and raising free people alongside what I’m learning now about endings, body grief, savorism, and the many ways a life asks to be reconsidered. Read my writings here.

For what ended

A space to explore the grief that follows the death of an idea, an identity, an expectation, or a way of living.

For what is alive

A place to notice what is changing in you and nurture the kind of growth that makes more freedom possible.

02 / What I believe

If it mattered to you, and it no longer lives in your life the way it once did, there is grief there asking to be tended.

A long-held dream can end. So can a role, a relationship, a version of your body, or a belief that once organized your whole life. Sometimes the ending is chosen. Sometimes it happens without your consent. Either way, it can keep influencing how you live.

I make language and practices for meeting those endings with more honesty. Through stories, teaching, and companionship, I help people recognize what changed and discover ways to tend the grief that came with it.

03 / Why I need this space

The archive is part of the garden.

I needed somewhere my earlier work could remain visible without requiring me to keep living inside it. Somewhere I could speak from where I am now, while letting the path that brought me here stay intact. Read my writings here.

  1. 01Commemorate and display my past work
  2. 02Speak honestly about the transition into my now work
  3. 03Share what I am making and learning as it takes form

Why these grounds exist, in my own voice.
